I have been making quilts for lots of years. Back then I hand quilted, made a quilt a year or two. Started machine quilting about 14 years ago. I can really churn them out now. I am always looking for faster, easier and better ways of doing things. I am very critical of my work. If they turn out really nice I am happy, if not, I'am not happy. Very hard to please me. I donate or give away most of my quilts. You must do whatever makes you happy. There are no absolute ways of doing anything.
