You can't/shouldn't do this. Usually you have to fill out paperwork that they keep on file in case they are audited by the IRS.
You really think Marshall's or other wholesalers that sell to the public for decades are doing something wrong all these years? A tax id means you are responsible for your own tax bill not the wholesaler you bought from. Marshall's doesn't mind selling small amounts at wholesale prices to the public. That is a benefit for many small groups and individuals. Some wholesalers have a min. amount to buy as small orders cost them more money in the long run.
