My first attempt at quilting was a quilt for my son. I had no idea how to quilt and since it was 45 years ago things were different as far as availability of information. I set up a barn with an opening door and multiple farmyard icons and sewed it to the background--I wouldn't actually call it applique. When it came time to quilt it, I did not have a clue. Meanwhile my boy was growing up. I boxed it and put it away and somewhere over the years it disappeared. My first real quilt was completed 40+ years later. I finished my first quilt and was instantly addicted to quilting and have made about a dozen quilts in a little over a year. I seem to be picking up speed and the quality is improving by leaps and bounds. If I still had that flimsy from the 70's, I bet I could finish it!
