I did. I did a queen sized quilt with 2 different blocks:a snowball, and one with Y seams as my first quilt. I think the pattern was called garden trellis. I had a friend show me how since she had one for a shower curtain. I hand quilted it, which was quite a task since no one told me you can't quilt through a bed sheet as a backing. I had to use a little needle puller for every loaded up needle. I did finish it and it came out beautiful! I kept it on our bed for many years. Now it graces the bed in our RV. I still love that quilt although it could use a binding replacement sometime soon. When I do that I will use the sewing machine this time around.
