I must disagree - I think Rowan Atkinson is brilliant in the role; initially, I was of the same opinion as you, but a little while into the first episode with Rowan Atkinson, I thought it was inspired casting. Michael Gambon also played the role well, and I loved him as Maigret, but Rowan Atkinson does the character justice.
Murder on the Orient Express is excellent as a TV serial and the book is wonderful, I am not sure that a film can bring the same nuance that David Suchet bought to the character. He is the perfect Hercule Poirot - to me anyway.
