I make pots. I make cups and bowls, but I also do ( and this is my favorite thing) large vessels with the 3 or 4 inch area just below the rim cut out into shapes of animals or flora...like I make an elephant bowl, and it has the silhouette of elephants walking around the rim, and some palm trees and so forth. I cut out the negative space, which is the important part...it really does remind me of quilting because what fabrics you put on, and where, allows you to see the pattern of the quilt.
