The bed extention has a clip that drops into the slot for the cover lock. There are 2 styles of Singer locks, flat & ones that have a dip. You have to get an extention that fits the styles of case you have. It just lifts off and fits inside. I bought the extension, my machine did not come with one, but I love the way it looks. There are a set of clips you can mount inside the dome of the bentwood top to clip the extension in. I am hesitant to screw/drill into my cover. It is in really fine shape & I would be really upset if I cracked it.
