When I made a lonestar years ago I had found a book in the library with a strip method. It was fabulous. Sew your strips as you normally would and then cut on the 60 degree angle. Definitely had to do some 'straightening' along the way to make sure everything was correct but otherwise it was a very easy method to do. Still had set in seams for the corners/sides but that was not horrible either. Sorry, don't remember the name of the book and this was about 15+ years ago.
