I wonder if some kind of basic spray can product or oil could prevent something like this? WD-40 is meant to dry to a protective film, a good spray down of metal parts before storage? Basic sewing machine oil does a good job in may cases. Dry heated rooms are probaby the only safe way to store anything. I'm also thinking of cardboard boxes lined with anti corrosive paper.
