It just fit the fabric with the least amount of waste and the best use of the fabric.

I usually go by something even and easier to cut, like 3" or 3.5", which I recently used on some fabric, but they are not giving me all that great of hexies.
In the quilt photo, each of your hexies look about 2" finished, or less.
I think I will try cutting my triangles smaller next time! You made a heck of a lot of little hexies for this quilt!!! Well done in the originality, too.
