Even tho the foot floats you need to lower the pressure foot as you would like regular stitches. This sets the tension on the thread.
That was my thought. The presser foot isn't lowered. It's easy to forget to do that when the foot isn't actually holding the fabric. Ask me why I immediately thought of that . . .
