You can't get a new bobbin Case? Not hook but Case? Ouch, that's appalling. I would look at 3rd party options, Ebay, Craig's List on that. I use nothing but 3rd party sewing feet on my Pfaff. They work very well. Maybe someone makes a third party bobbin case.
Good idea about buying vintage machines. And I agree. I used to buy top of the line and now I buy middle of the line and lower because electronics seem to be built to fail.
