my-ty...there are no skinny strips in the middle...that's quilting.
This was pieced similar to how a NY Beauty is done. Make the pieces that make up a 1/4 of the circle and then there is a 1/2 circle piece to add to the inside and the outside to turn that into a square and you sew all four squares together to form a complete circle.
