I used plastic canvas in my purses. I cut it just a tad smaller than the bottom of the purse and then I rounded the corners so it wouldn't cut into the fabric from rubbing.

I use plastic canvas. It is not expensive and be cut to size very easily. I cover the cut sides with duct tape so it does not snag the fabric. I also make a separate sleeve for this that can be removed before washing.

Wow! Great idea. I see those all the time at the resale/mission stores. Like this better than plastic canvas, as the holes in the canvas make it get dirty faster, even with a cover on it. Love it that we all see solutions from different perspective.

I went to Lowe's and purchased a small sheet of plexiglass. The gentleman was nice enough to cut the entire sheet into specific sizes and I was able to get about 10 purse bottoms out of one sheet of plexiglass. I have several different sizes cut. When I make purses, I make a "pillowcase", slide the plexiglass in and it is very sturdy.

Go to the dollar store and get those thin plastic cutting boards. They cut easily to size and the white ones can be used without showing up too much or can be covered. Cheap is good when it works!

Not being one to throw something out right away I found a new use for the old vertical blinds. They make great bottoms for my tote bags, they can even go in the washer, and are very sturdy in the bottom of the bags.

Gosh, reusing old vertical blinds is a fabulous idea. Recycling is a wonderful thing.

I have used template plastic. Depending on the size old, washed milk cartons would work.

I've made several purses, and always use plastic canvas for the bottom. I make a "pillowcase" for it, with a small flap to tuck in. Then just slip out the plastic whenever you want to wash it. It really works.
