    The flowers are a relax look and the blue makes them pop, I would have to steer you away from the yellow.

    I like the floral and the blue...the yellow not so much (though I do love yellow)...could you have both? or wouldn't it be suitable for the end design?

    Earthwalker has a good idea, if it works for you. Alternate plates, flower center then blue center.

    I like the blue center because it makes the background pop and brings all the pattern together.

    All quilts need a zinger and the blue is a fantastic choice. How special to use fabric with a family history.

    LOL, I too thought the blue was just an unfinished area of the background showing thru.
    I'd go with the redorange, myself, or the floral. But no matter what you do, it's going to be a wonderful keepsake for the family.
