As for shops and men.......
Most of the shops around here are pretty good with male customers. One of the shops, down on the far south side of town is owned by 3 guys, and called "3 Dudes Quilt shop".
When I worked in a fabric store we had several gentlemen that shopped there regularly, both for craft stuff and fabrics. One guy did a lot of Special Barbie outfits and many of the prototypes were done with fabric from our store.
Our manager was a guy and we frequently had male employees that sewed and knew what they were doing.
Several of the local shops have male employees and are very good at working with men who are shopping for significant others and are out of their comfort zones.
Several of the shops even have special "men's nights" during the holiday season to help guys shop for their wives/girlfriends and so on. They provide wish lists for the women to fill out, the shop has them for the guys. and so on.
My husband is hoot in a fabric shop..... he usually finds fabric that he thinks would make a great sports shirt. <G> (the wilder the better.)

Out west is almost every state on the other side of the Mississippi to me. This trip is going to be over a month long journey for me to go on. I want to see all I can see and meet and stay with as many members and their families as I can. I honestly do not expect to stay in a hotel until I get to the Grand Canyon and then I will be there for 3 days.
But yes I will be in your neck of the woods!!

When you come through Phoenix we should all get together. I have not been to "3 dudes" store--will have to look it up. I mostly buy on-line. There are 2 stores that I go to that are very good but I have never paid any attention to how they treat men. I do have a "guest room" with a murphy bed that you are welcome to use if you don't mind 2 english pointers sleeping on top of you, lol. (you can close the door........)
So, lunch and a trip to some shops in Phoenix when the weather is a little cooler? I don't remember when you said your trip will be. I am in north central Phoenix so probably not too far from Pati.

Billy.. I know you won't be in this area, but if you go through Springfield, Missouri you should stop at "The Quilt Sampler" it's on Glenstone at Sunshine and it's a wonderful shop. When I lived there I shopped there LOTS.. they're super and have a great selection.

Billy if you go through Rapid City South Dakota you should try to stop at The Thimble Cottage. It is over 300 miles away from me but I stop there every time I visit my son and his family. It is owned by Pearl Louis. She designs her own patterns and fabrics. The ladies there are so helpful. Sturgis might be a place that you will want to see. The bike week is coming up soon. Enjoy your trip.

My husband gets hugs when he goes to the local quilt shop with me , they have a corner with a big easy chair and guy books to read, he loves it, When we travel across Arizona or across country, we stop at quilt shops , he always finds a quilt hanging on the wall that he wants, so we go home with enough material for another king size quilt, He is loving this life, we have been married for 6 years now ,both of us lost spouses to cancer, BTW, we both are on Medicare, so that should give you a clue to our ages, :lol:

Generally,the LQS that I go to are very nice to me, and I feel very comfortable in them. I have two main ones that I go two, one in either direction, and they all know me by name in both of them.
I think it's the customers who haven't seen me in there before that are the ones that are dumb-struck at times. A few weeks ago we were at one of those LQSs and there was a lady from Russia in there (here in Arkansas of all places) with apparently her elderly mother as well as her two small children. I was gathering some fabric to be cut and had put it on the cutting table when she asked "YOU quilt?" with much surprise. I'm guessing there aren't many male quilters in Russia other than our Admin, LOL :) The owner of the shop jumped in and glorified me to no end, talking about how many quilts that I had made, etc., etc. And then there was the other customer who looked at me when I walked in a different time as though I were an escaped convict. So I get different reactions.
There is another LQS that I've been to a couple of times, but will not go back. They treated me as though I were an idiot when I came in there, and they were bordering on rude. It's kind of a toney place, so they haven't gotten any of my $$$ since.

I'm doing that, just not on my MC since I'm taking my quilting machine to get an upgrade and my DSM so I can piece while I'm house sitting in Florida! I'll be going through WA, ID, MT, CO, NM, TX, MS, AL, FL, GA, SC, NC, VA, WV, OH, IN, IA, and SD. I'm a bit flexible on my route, so if there is a LQS I just can't miss, please let me know!

Hmmm, sounds like "Pretty Woman" but, of course he's a guy. He should go back to that first shop and let them know, " Big mistake, HUGE". LOL! I've only been to one LQS in Arkansas and they couldn't have been more helpful. I had them finish quilting a queen size quilt on a longarm for me and I bought a bunch of fabric. I think they had as much fun as I did. Loved it!
