I'm trying the attic window quilt. I have my windows but need some help with the rest. The one I'm looking at is picture #4 (pink and green).
My windows are 6x6 and I would like to have the saching but I'm unsure how to go about it. Any help would be great. Here is the link

I'm not sure what you are having trouble with. You want to add the narrow sashing with the small squares between each completed attic window block? Do you need to know how to measure and cut the sashing? Or are you having a hard time setting it on point?

All the above..... :oops: and also the triangles that are in the four corners. Turning them on point I think I'll be ok with, since the squares are 6x6 do I make the squares (the green ones) do I make those 7x7 so that it fits with a 1/4 seam allowance around the sqaure so that my quilt comes out like the picture?

I know that is a crazy question...... but I'm doing a lap quilt for a friend that is on dialysis and I thought that this was a pretty pattern, but I think I might bitten off more then I can chew :?

This quilt is done on point which means that your rows are put together differently. You won't be sewing horizontal rows like most quilts. The best piece of advice for me to give you is lay it all out. That way you'll have a visual. The short sashing between the block are sewen block to block. Then you would cut and piece the longer sashing for between the rows.

When you do sew your rows together you're going to be sewing rows that are on an angle.

I agree with sewcrafty...if you are using a design wall or can lay it out on the table, try laying the whole block out on point so that the individual blocks are square to the table...or lay it out on a sheet and turn the sheet so you are looking at the corner of the layout (does that make more sense?) that should give you a better visual of how the piecing will go together. After you get the first one figured out, later diagonal rows will make sense.

Is 6 x 6 the finished size of the block? By finished I mean the size it will be when it is surrounded on all 4 sides by other fabric. IF so then the following measurements are correct. The solid squares (green) will also be finished at 6 x 6 --- the same size as your attic window blocks. So the cut size would be 6 1/2 x 6 1/2. The side setting triangles would be cut at 9 3/4 inches then cut a big X from corner to corner to make 4 triangular pieces. The number of 9 3/4 squares you cut depends on how many side setting triangular pieces you need -- how many rows there are.... The corner setting triangles --- make 2 squares that are 5 1/8 and cut them 1 time from corner to corner to make 4 corner pieces. I hope this helps --- if you need more information---please ask.

There is a great book put out by Better Homes and Gardens called "Complete Guide to Quilting" --- it is a great reference book --- I use it a lot.

Oh yes that you all so much for the help. I will take your advice, I'm going to be working on it again tomorrow.
