Looking at your picture of the backing..it actually looks like marbled fabric...but I am so sorry for your disappointment. I am awed by those that have the patience for hand quilting...I can't do it. =)

http://www.shoutitout.com/coupon/06-10-shoutsample Here is something to send for. It was in the classified section. I haven't received mine yet but did reply for a free sample. I haven't opened it in a while to see if there was an expiration date. Give it a try!

I was gifted some fabric from my MIL's stash and didn't realize that one of the blues was bad until it literally turned my hands blue when I put on the binding. I was upset. Ended up washing the darn thing about 8 times and it still looked like the ocean let loose. That tought me to double check any darker/intense colors under the faucet to determine just how much they run. I rinse first, then wash. So far so good.

Sorry you have to deal with this mess and disappointment. Don't give up - one of the remedies is bound to work.

I would try oxyclean. If it hasn't been heat dried (dryer dried) it should come out. So sorry this happened especially since you pre-washed.

Alum is the thing to put in the water - get it at the chemist.

I had the same problem but read about the "color catcher" sheets on the board. Wow, it worked. My quilt had a hot pink & that ran onto the lighter pink & the white. I found the color catcher sheets in the laundry aisle by the stain treatments- made by Shout. Washed the quilt in color with 1 sheet & wow! it took out all the part that bled.

I would try cold water, salt and vinegar. Good luck

I ditto that. Keep it soaking in cold water, till you get the right product. Amazon.com should have the Shout Color Catcher sheets, and I've never heard of the othe rproduct, but I'm making a NOTE, right now - I saw your quilt on your blog, and IT IS GORGEOUS. Precision and all of that hand-quilting. The white/cream is so important, that I can't see dying the whole thing..........*maybe* cut pointy pieces and hand applique over the splotched ones? MORE work, I know, but you really put in so much work and it came out so fantastic, I just might do the appliquing.

IF that would leave the white, white, and lighten the purple and teal, that might work!

Retayne does work before hand, and I soak it longer than they say to. Then I run it with a COlor Catcher sheet.
