This works well with your scrap -- as long as they are all the same width. I went thru my 2" scraps.

You are right. This makes a GREAT scrap quilt. I cut up my scraps into 2 1/2" strips and called it "A trip down memory lane" because I got to think about all the other quilts I had done with those fabrics.
You just have to make sure you keep track of how long your initial strip is. I kept a calculator by me when I was sewing them together and measured them as I went along. When I got to 1600" I stopped.
    Enjoy!

I don't have enough scraps for a quilt but I think I will try this as a scrappy pillow, just making a strip from what I have in 2.5 inch width.

I did a mockup of the jellyroll with paper strips and I just cannot see how the quilt can fail to have the same fabrics adjacent to one another, which always draws the eye and would annoy me. It is really guaranteed with this method because of the folding, although if you chose carefully which side of the strip to sew, you can limit it a bit.

Fromthenest, are you SURE you didnt cheat a little on yours?!! I can't understand how your colour distribution came out so well!

LOL- I'm SURE I didn't "cheat". You are right about choosing which side of the strip to sew, but, really.....just let go and don't WORRY about fabrics touching. It will free your soul!!!!
;) This quilt is meant to be fast and easy and stressfree!
    I love quilters!!!

You are right of course. I do tend to overthink these things! Thanks.

It may have gotten lost in all the chatter of this thread - - we are all just so excited at this fun and fast quilt! ;-) :!: :!: :!:
At any rate! The one quilter that may have solved the like colors matching part said that after she had folded and cut her piece in half, she took one section and turned it around ... I haven't spent any time trying it yet, but if you consider that by turning and changing the side you stitch on - - the problem should be well solved. <wave>

Just had an e-mail asking me to figure this out for a BABY QUILT:
    15 strips x 40" = 600" - 20" you cut from first strip = 580"
Fold once: 280" by 4" (I use finished sizes when I'm figuring it out)
    Fold again: 140" by 8"
    Fold again: 70" by 16"
Again: 35" by 32" (All of these are just approximate of course!)
You will be trimming a bit off the sides to even things up and then add borders so that it comes out
to the size you want. If you add 2" and 6" borders, that would bring it to a 48" x 48" size.

I always preferred the smaller size for my babies' blankets, but I like the idea of adding at least one border just to put an end to the busyness of all the strips. It is so kind of you to figure these sizes out for us <wave>
