    Welcome Cynde and Billie!
I hope you are having fun here. It's almost as much fun to be on the Quilter's Board as it is to be creating that special quilt!

Thanks for your welcome Heather, I did post more quilts in the pictures area. Under "some of my work" I am going to add some more pictures to that today, I just found my camera and realized I didn't have any pictures of a quilt I had made for my grandmother (that's a switch isn't it).

ETA I just realized I replied to a post from the bottom of the first page

When we lived in WA, my middle son had a first grade teacher who spelled her name the way you do. (that would have been about 15 years ago). She was an awesome teacher - the best any of my boys ever had - and I liked her personally. She moved across the state and we moved out east, and we lost contact with her. I was just hoping... but I can see you have children, and she did not. I look forward to getting to know you, too!

It's not a very common spelling as you know. I'm named after my mom's best friends (from when she was a teen) little sister. I was a tour guide for five years at a pulp mill and met about 2000 people per summer (about 10 000 total) and one person that came through had the same spelling as me. So I only know of 2 other people. I wonder if the teacher you know was my tour guide guest, most of our guests were from the states and a lot from Washington.

Hi. I am new to this site also. Quilting is my passion. Several years ago I bought a quilting book, fabric and headed to the machine. Loved the entire process from the beginning. Never took a class just opened the books and gave it a try!
Some of the quilts are great, others I wonder where my head was when I picked out the fabric!
The new thing I am trying is hand quilting. Yikes!! Really sore fingers and lots of frustration. Yes, I did get a thimble (several) but I just can't seem to get the hang of it. The past 6 weeks have given me more headache then most anything I have done so far. Not going to give up. I will conquer this!!! (maybe).
Let me know what you are working on. Love to talk to other quilters.

    Dianne

Hi Dianne and welcome. I'm glad you're not going to give up on the hand quilting! It just takes time like anything else. Before you know it you'll be right at home with a thimble, hoop, frame or whatever method you choose to use. What type needle are you using?

"Betweens" are the best for handquilting and they come in different sizes. You might want to start with one of the larger ones until you're comfortable with the needle and thimble. I can't quilt without a thimble. Some can, but I'm lost without mine. Even with that though, you'll get pricked on the finger under the quilt and you just have to be patient for that to build a little callous. Then it's more comfortable. Don't fret about the size or eveness of your stitches to begin with. Just try to relax and enjoy the process. You'll get better and better with time and practice! Good luck.
