I made one like this and carried it to potlucks all over the Southwest. The dish provides support and the handles make it easy to carry level. I sewed on a strip which ties in a bow to hold serving utensils.

I've wanted to make some forever and have been too scared to take the plunge. I can't wait for these directions!

super idea about buying t he king size qult. The double quilted fabric is so expensive. Even cheaper look in second hand shops for the quilted fabric bed quilts. I have made quite a few also for gifts.

Babylock has a pattern for free that is good. My carriers are in two pieces because I want the sections to criss cross and form a pocket where I could put cold packs if I used the carrier for something cold. It's great for carrying the hot stuff too because of the double layers and you can get some batting that has insulation propertiess if you are going to quilt your own fabric for the tote. I like the way the dowels aid in the carrying.

Tippy, This is a great idea and I, too, would like to get the tutorial so that I can have this as a Christmas gift for 2011. Keep me posted. Thanks, Sandi
