    hmmm...
well due to my current exciting forays into the realm of applique I decided to treat myself to a mixed lot of coats machine embroidery threads... so I now have 65 300yd spools in all the colours of the rainbow!!! (a real steal at only £22)

however the concern arises that I have no way of storing them. my current threads are kept in a nifty little box with pegs in the bottom to hold them in place, however it only holds around 20 threads and was far too expensive to buy another 4 of!

So im looking for thread storage ideas for 45mm tall spools, available in the uk, and reasonably cheap... maybe some of you have ideas for a DIY version?

My Mom used a peg board on the wall. The kind with removable metal pegs. Mine? are thrown in a box.

Alas i think i may also need to go for the "throw it in a box" option as anything hanging from my walls instantly becomes a kitty climbing frame....

I use plastic storage boxes that are made for toy cars - like Hot Wheels. Are you able to get those in the UK? They have dividers inside to keep the cars separate, but it holds the thread perfectly.

There are also some similar boxes to hold fishing lures.

I found a set of drawers for paper supplies etc. in an office supply store. One is taller and rolls under my sewing table. The other one is a small 3 drawer one that fits on top of my sewing table.

The hot wheel boxes hold 48 spools of thread. I have about 5 of those. I use to buy them at WM but, you know how it goes. Raise the price or don't carry them anymore if they find out the quilters want them....
