I would take all their suggestions and search the net for each brand read about what they have as the features etc. then decide based on what you want the machine to do.

I have 3 Vikings - Mega Quilter, Sapphire, and SE - and like all of them. Two local shops sell Bernina, which I think are comparable to Viking. I like that the shops have classes specifically for the Bernina owners.
    Good luck making a decision.

You have to take to Sears for repairs, I learned this when my Kenmore Elite's motherboard went out. None of the other dealers would fix it, because the parts are just slightly different.

Oooooh and you'd have SO MUCH $$ left for fabric, and perhaps a great quilting workshop or retreat! Smart choice. ;-)

I'd buy a few more wonderful vintage machines and loads of great fabrics!

All depends on what you want it to do. Just like going shopping for a car or a computer what is it you want it to do. Once you know what you want your machine to do than find out which brands have what you want it to do and than select the one you want based on quality of the machine, price, accessories it comes with, etc.
