i love to do donation quilts but i have to keep it to our state and close enough to drive to . The postage was killing me to ship them off. But I find good homes for them here in Colorado.

Our sewing group sends our quilts to local NICU units at our local hospitals.

Quilts for kids.org will send you a kit already cut, with instructions. All you add are batting, thread, and return shipping when finished. Working on my first one now. Easy !!!

I quilt for our guild's community service quilts. They get taken mostly to all the hospitals out and around to the children's wards.

Where I used to live, I did several for Project Linus and Davis Quilts for Kids inDavis CA. They were wonderful to work with and I felt so go about giving. Many of QFKs quilts would be taken to police and sheriff's departments for the officers to carry in their car in case they came upon a situation where kids were being taken away from their parents for whatever reason. Since I worked for Probation for a while, it made me feel really good knowing someone was thinking of the kids caught up in awful situations.

I also do Project Linus. It is my primary charity, just found out about quilts for kids at my last quilt guild meeting.

I have donated to 2 churches and over 230 baby items to Our NICU at one of our Hosp. and some went to the Salvation Army to give away and A Women s Shelter. I am started on more Quilts for the Hosp. I made Many small quilts,bibs,receiving blankets, burp clothes, fleece hats, blankets,taggie blankets.I am thinking next I want to start making for the wounded soldiers or Vets. Cant decide. I am learning on my own so I don't know any fancy ways or even quilt on them, but I do my best.

I do Quilts For Kids of which Downy hapens to be a sponser. I believe they might donate something to the cause.

You contact them and they will gladly send you a kit or two. They are very easy...go to their web site and check the gallery.
Generally they are 4-patch or pinwheel. I also include one of my own for every two kits I return.

You might also consider your local fire department or women's shelters or any church or even hospitals. Tiny quilts for the neonatal unit are very welcomed. So many out there.

Oh, Adult Foster Care homes...residents always love warmth.

I most enjoy quilting for my local community. I don't as a rule donate to a big organization, as I prefer to get word of mouth of those who are needing a quilt. I also enjoy contributing to those on the board who have projects going that ask for help.
I just volunteered to make 5 infant quilts for a local volunteer group that mentors teen mothers. They are part of a community outreach program, not a national organization. This is the kind of thing I like to do.
As word gets around, more people tell me about those they know of who might be a candidate for a quilt and I do what I can.
