You'll start to see more and more of the small shops closing. The wholesale prices are going up and there's too much tied up in inventory to have a selection.
I always try to encourage friends to buy locally - not just fabric but everything. Support your local community and businesses.

I have a friend who recently sold her quilt shop. She tells me it's hard to make a living operating a quilt shop. You don't really make much money on the fabric. Most of the income is from selling sewing machines, doing classes, and other stuff. I admire those people who can succeed in the LQS business. They are doing the rest of us a service. We need to remember that and support them whenever we can.

Yes, we've had some close in our area. My favorite is not sure how much longer they can stay open. If money and space were no problem I'd keep them in business. I've just about run out of space, not to mention $$$$$.

Not so far. Our state has its shop hop going on -started last Thursday through this weekend. Local shop said they already had more people in, than last year. One shop promotes a lot of sale stuff, some is last years design overruns, so cost less. Really brings people in. It is going to get hard for them though with gas prices going out of sight and the prices in the grocery store going up every week.

Yes, stopped in the local shop in Carpenteria today, The Treasure Hunt, only to find out they are on day 8 of their closing sale. Makes me sad.

I was going to mention this place but I saw you did. I have not checked on it, but I recently heard of one re-opening under new management. I think it was supposed to be a little north of Northglenn.
