I heard this yesterday in our RA pool class. There is something in it that works! WD-40! Who knew that it takes pain away. Even had a nurse say it was true!! I gotta try it to believe it.

I use Biofreeze and also use the long fingered gloves. I also have that thumb pain and also the trigger finger. When I do to much which is not in my opinion my hands really hurt and I can't do anything then the right one especially freezes up. The hand Dr. said take a break every free min. but what can you get done then but it mostly aggravates me to be getter OLD. Sue

The trigger finger can be helped with an injection of a steriod. My son is a specialist in Rehab Medicine and gave me an injection over a year ago for my trigger finger and I haven't had any more problems. It's magic! His specialty is called a Physiatrist. You might check with one as they specialize in non-surgical treatment.

I'm also a die hard supporter of the Glucosamine Chondroitin. Have been taking it for years since the doc took one look at the burning knots developing on my knuckles and pronounced "yup, you have arthritis"... I can tell when I miss taking it for a length of time. For me it does work at keeping the burning pain at bay and slowing down the progression.

This past year I am also teaching myself to machine quilt on a long arm as my hands just freeze up & are really painful to where I can't sleep when I hand quilt for periods of time anymore..

My Mom has given me quite a variety of ointments, including DSM over the years as they work for her & hers is considerably more advanced than mine.

UPDATE
I saw my DR and she said it's a ganglin cyst and if it gives me much problems we can take care of it. Thank the Lord it isn't arthritis.

This may sound strange, but a gal I worked with had terrible arthristis pain in the joints in her hands. Someone told her that lime was the best thing. She started drinking water with a slice of lime (squeezed the juice in) daily and she swears it really worked.

I'm going to have to try that. I have RA and between sewing and the 90+ minutes I practice piano everyday, sometimes I am in agony. I find that if I limit my stress and eat well then I do a lot better with my joints. I also use heated hand mitts you can buy from beauty supply companies. I use them after I play everyday. The discomfort isn't as bad.

I know this thread has taken a different twist but thought I would give you an update on my daughter. I took her to a cardiologist instead of a rheumatologist. She has acute rheumatic fever. They did an echocardiogram on her and we find out on friday if her heart is permanently damaged. She is now on an antibiotic for the rest of her life.
