I sure could use some HELP!! I really messed up and placed "securely" a RED piece of fabric...using Wonder Under...to my WHITE fabric... And I placed it in the WRONG place!! arrrgghh!! I carefully pulled the now stuck RED fabric piece off and am now left (on the white fabric) with the sticky adhiesive of the Wonder Under and a slight Pink tinge to the white fabric :-( . I haven't tried anything to get it off yet... I am just waiting for some advice from all you GREAT Quilters out there!! If I can get the Adhiesive off...I am thinking I could use a little bleach carefully to remove the pink...I dont know and am now nervous about doing anything??

i've never had to do this but i've always had Citrasolv in the back of my mind if this problem ever happened to me. its a degreaser that isn't oil based.

i use this product all the time on fabric to transfer ink jet prints onto fabric so i know it won't stain or change the hand of the fabric in any way.

i just don't know how the fabric will stand up to the rubbing you will have to do to remove the wonder under adhesive.

i would soak a cotton ball with the Citrasolv and let it sit on the area for some time, then i would use the edge of a spoon to remove the softened adhesive, repeat as needed, and finally when it was all gone wash the fabric.

Don't bleach white fabric whatever you do because it will turn yellow...and eventually it might disintegrate and fall apart...I had yellow bleach marks on one of my white tablecloths once after I bleached out some stains...is it possible to remove the piece and sew in a new one...or sew a piece of white fabric to the back of the white where the sticky stuff is...even if you baste it in..it will become permanent after you quilt it???

what you should have done is place a teflon pressing sheet over the piece that is fused down and heat it up with your iron and peel it back off immediately!

however you now you can not easily remove that sticky stuff, nor can you remove the PINK tinge the red left....NEVER use red on white unless you really wash the red first..

another thing..was the white washed?
ALL fusible webbing will tell you to make sure you are using WASHED fabric before applying the fusible..the chemicals on the fabric react when the heat is applied to the fusible webbing...

first use a brown paper bag- or piece of parchment paper= put over the sticky area and iron with a hot iron--the residue will (soften) and adhere to the paper...which should remove most of it.
then use goo-gone to remove any lingering adhesive.
as for the color bleed... try rinsing it with running water- it will probably come right back out...but i would not do too much to the piece-after the quilt is all done- wash it using a color catcher.
it is not recommended to put bleach on your quilt...could cause alot more problems than solve.
if the color came off just with pressing the fabric you really need to treat that fabric (or replace it) if it ran with the iron it is going to turn your whole quilt pink when it's finished when it gets washed the first time...all reds should be pre-washed- if you really just do not want to pre-wash at least test your reds ... and wash them when you find they run...

If you've got a scrap of that white fabric, adhere some wonder-under and a scrap of the red fabric to it. Then peel it off the same way you did on your 'real' project, and try whatever method(s) of salvaging suggested here BEFORE trying any with your 'real' item.
