I bought a cheap Kenmore ($89.00) to take to class. It has a much prettier stitch than the one I paid $900.00 for. I would go that route before I would buy one from a school.

I bought a White school over buy back in the late 80's when I didn't have much money. Worked great. Made alot of curtains, kid's cloths & alot of dolls (for sale). I used it until I needed a machine with a larger varity of stitches. The person who I had used to clean it said that it was a great buy.

Go for it. Just make sure that there is a warrentee for the machine.

I bought one about 20 years ago...my Mom and I did. We upgraded to the one that was alittle more expensive, but itwas a great machine!> Still have it, but ours were New homes!

I bought one 7 years ago and love it. No problems and does a great job. Also, has the serger. Wasn't at all pricey, compared to what some on this board are paying for theirs.

My sister bought one a few years ago maybe 3-4 years and it is still working fine. She paid 200.00 but no serger.... was going to check out the serger part and forgot to go check on it the day they were around here. It does sew heavy things... and I think she would recomend it.

i too bought one of the singers from a school over stock , i've had it for about 12-15- years , absolutley love it it has never broken down , and runs like a dream , but now i dodnt buy the $149.00 one i got one that cost $300.00 , from them , it does sew thru several layers of jeans as for hemming , what a great investment it was , i'd do it all over again if they came back to my area, mine is a singer model #9410. great investment.

Bought one in 1998. Feed dogs will not go down so I cannot FMQ.
Has a good straight stitch and zig zag. Tension works fine. I have mine in the motorhome and take it with me when we are camping. It works fine.

I bought a Singer for $99 online and it is my back up machine and is the best machine I have ever had! So I am not so sure money matters, it's performance that counts.

I bought one of these from a high school and am disappointed because the machine is difficult to thread. I have owned Singers and have sewn for over 50 years but this machine is so difficult to get the thread through the threading devices that I have stopped trying. I only paid $25.00 for it some 8 years ago so not such a big investment but a big disappointment.
