    Something we have found very common when we get a vintage machine is the bobbins may appear full but they are layed with multiple colors of thread. You may only get a few feet before running out of that color and have to rethread the bobbin thread again and again and again

    :) I remember that also. Maybe there was the idea thread must match the color of the fabrics?

    Or maybe extra bobbins were pricey to buy? Interested to know just why.

    I do the same thing. An accumulation of partially filled bobbins drives me crazy, so I started using them in scrap quilts several years ago.

    what a great tip I throw the thread away if a small length. If it is a good length i wrap it aroung a large empty spool and use it for hand sewing.
