Myth or not...my sewing scissors are off limits. Given the chance, they would disappear to the garage to cut all manner of things. I had several Fiskars and they migrated one by one to that dead space. So I keep my Ginghers in the box and bring them out when I need them. No fuss no headache!

When my kids were little...they were told that IF they ever used my scissors that the next thing I would use them to cut was THEIR FINGERS OFF!! They heeded my warning...my son has a tackle box (he doesn't fish) inside it is his rotary cutter and sewing stuff. He keeps it up on the shelf in his bedroom closet. I don't think his wife even touches it *L* he learned from Mom too..crafty_linda_b

i don't understand. you don't have to explain. you didn't do anything wrong. she did. she took something that didn't belong to her. they're yours.

Don't explain why, just make her pay to have them sharpened. It's amazing how quickly our children learn when things directly impact THEM. They are your sewing scissors and there is no explanation required. Falls into the same catagory as when my teen daughter decided that the pearl earrings my parents gave me for my 21st birthday would look good on her and she lost them. Took them without asking. It took her a while to replace them. They now have double emotional value for me.

Using my sewing scissors for paper or anything else is reason for real mayhem.

Actually, more than 1 national teacher has stated this isn't necessary anymore. It was necessary when the qualtiy of paper wasn't so goo and it had more 'other stuff' in it that could dull the scissors.

I just use the scissors that are close and haven't had a problem.

Of course, I do have a very old set of specialty dressmaker shears that are for sewing projects only. I don't even use them for quilting. They are that old.
