Traditional style does not require archaic techniques. I love the look of traditional quilts, just don't get so much pleasure out of making them any longer so I moved on. That does not change my admiration of traditional quilts and quilters in any way, however.

How wonderful to hear from individuals who feel as I do about quilts. The quilt I just dropped off to my long arm friend for my 5 year old grandson. I started with 3 inch strips of batiks and built an environment for his dragons. We have setting sun, sky, island, sea, and sun's reflection. Then I appliqued 21 dragons on it. I am sure Lynette will quilt it in imaginative combinations of stitching. I think it will be as much fun for him as it was for me. I hope I can get a picture of it to attach soon. Thank you for sharing you many and varied responses here.

Honestly, I'll try anything! I don't like to be confined to the 'boundaries' of 'beginner' projects, and neither should anyone else. If you can use a rotary cutter properly and sew a straight line, there's really not much to it, in my opinion. So, as my youngest niece would say..."Bring it!"

But my absolute favorite is applique.
Was that a quilt named Civil War Tribute by Bonnie Bell pattern? I just made that and love it, I used 60 different repro fabrics. I also like the sampler quilts

Practice makes perfect. Yet the quilts I've made that were more complex actually tend to stick in my memory a lot more (maybe because of the time they took to make them). I love the bright bold colors put into traditional blocks, with some kind of scrappy twist to the pattern. Love it!
Haha true that sometimes the easiest pattern can go wrong, but I love it too it is all fun.
