I just made a white, red and black double Irish Chain and need help deciding what fabric to use for backing. I'd like to use white but fear the colors will show through from the front. Is there a opaque batting to prevent that? Using a dark color on the back would show thru to the front. Help????

The backing shouldn't show through the batting!!I don't see a problem! What batting are you using??

If you want to use a light backing, black batting would not work well. Fabric from the front of the quilt will not show through the batting regardless of colors so I would go with the light batting.

Your batting should hide the backing fabric. I know the Quilter's Dream Poly does. I can't tell what's on either side unless I turn it over and look. Nothing shows through.

Try a sample with scraps. I've seen white quilts that show the color of the backing. They sort of look like one of the colors bleed.

One of the problems with using a white backing is thread pokies from the front. If you quilt with two colors of thread the top thread may show up on the back as tiny dots if your thread tension isn't perfect.

I would use Warm and White! Jo'Ann's carries it . It comes on a roll .. so if you wanted to be extra sure you could take a piece of the backing to the store to double check or just grab a some of the bolt fabric in the store to see if it will Show thru.

Dream Poly is...well a Dream to work with- and it is white-white- no show through! if you use a white backin your quilt will be beautiful!---It will be beautiful no matter what you use- it will just not show through

Thanks for all the suggestions. I haven't used Dream Poly but will look at it. Probably will use Warm and white to be sure there are no shadows from the colors on the top.
