Becka, You have honored your friend and his culture and traditions enormously. Your dear mother would be very proud of you. This is such a moving story and the quilt you have created is marvelous. I hope it has helped you in your grief, as your friend has. Donna

Becka, what a beautiful quilt, he should be honored to have it. Also an inspiring tradition. I had a hard time with my mom's death and am still trying to finish alot of the quilts that she had started. I hope that working on this quilt give s yuou happy memories of her. Aneokle

A wonderful tribute and a beautiful quilt. I also picked up on the gifts you made for the others who were in your mothers life -- pot luck holders and drum stick holders. Really loving giving thoughtfulness

We were told these facts when we were out in South Dakota by one of the Tribesmen. I made many of these quilts for people that I worked with as they retired. It was great to know that there is a story behind that quilt pattern.

I don't know how old your son is, but the tradition of quilts among the First People is fascinating and tragic at the same time, if he wanted to research it :)
