I've worked behind locked doors as we handled incoming payments (some of which were actually cash sent through the mail), but never worked anywhere we were not trusted to do the right thing.

I don't know JoAnn's policy, but when I worked in retail, we could not bring purses into the store. The store provided us with clear vinyl zippered bags that we had to use as a purse. It was fun trying to conceal tampons in a clear vinyl bag. Never did like working there :hunf:

I have gone to take a class and customer service wanted to see inside my sewing trolley before I left.

It's the policy of many retail stores, sad but true.

I noticed this too as an employee left Joann at the end of their shift. When I worked at Coach we had to let a Manager look inside our handbag when we were leaving for the day. I didn't mind doing it.

Jean: I am in MI also, and our local store has the same policy. Seems sad not to be able to trust their employees. I see them doing it almost every time I am in the store. Penny in Kalamazoo

We have a few store that have that policy around here, also.

I would hope it could be done out of the sight of customers, if that were the policy.

I once worked at a Walgreens for the summer break from my teaching job. We had to wear smocks. The first time I wanted to take it home to wash it, I was stopped by the Pharmistist so he could check the pockets to see if I was stealing something. I couldn't believe it. I wanted to quit on the spot. I didn't, but was very upset to think I was being accused of the possibility of stealing from the store.

I was a manager at JoAnns many years ago and the purse check was part of the policy even back then. I feel it is a sad statement about our society that employers have a need to check everything leaving the store.
