Don't know where you'll find the serial number, but once you do, the Singer Company will not just tell you what you have but also the day it was made!

The date that Singer lists is not the "Made on" date, but the date that the batch (of which it is one) was commissioned. The actual date is unknown and could likely be several months later.

They are actually the same size. The 500 does built in stitches - the 503 uses disks to do the same thing. Sew Classic has a chart to (I think it is on the 401 page) match up the disks and the built in stitches.

I KNOW they are the same size. The 500 is the more expensive TOL machine and the 503 is just slightly less "sophisticated" . They are also almost like the 401 and the 403, just with a more updated "dress". The only difference is in the bobbin winders.

I have one in a fancy cabinet with spindly curvy legs. I just love her. She is so cute and sews very well.

My grandma bought her's in '63 also..I have payment coupon and all her receipts for payment. She kept everything together. She made notes on stuff, but it's written in Spanish, so I'll have to translate it to figure out what she was writing.

I think I'll name it after my grandma too, in honor of her. 1963 was the year I was born...so that's extra special for me.
I can translate it if you don't understand Spanish.

    Beautiful machine.
