I may be wrong but I heard somewhere that Singer, Husvarga(sp)and Janome are all made by the same off shore company.....so sad, what do we mfgr in this country nowadays?????hamburgers/fries??????

None of the machines are what they used to be before it was popular to use so much plastic and artificial materials in the manufacturing process. I have 3 Singers presently and have never had a problem with any of them. My favorite was my first (the 401A) and I would love to have another of that model.

I have an older Singer and have never had a problem with it. The label just says Singer and model is 9323. How do I find out how old it is? I aloso have a Brother that is fine for regular sewing but it hates quilt seams. Of the 2 I prefer the Singer.

I have the Singer Futura SES 2000 and love it. Works wonderful. I also bought the Singer Computerized Featherweight few months ago and would not trade or give it away for nothing. Great little machine.

Now I have a Brother also that I purchased at Walmart the other year and IMHO not worth the money. Makes alot of noise, and moves around and other silly things. I have given it to my 9 year old who sews.

Just like any machine there are things one loves or hates about it. IMHO Singer has been around a long, long time and they do stand behind there products.

Someone mentioned Singer does not make machines as good today as in years past. Truth be told no company makes machines anymore of totally metal, heavy duty, etc.

It all depends on what you want out of a sewing machine and what one can afford. IMHO you get what you pay for.

Also many times there is nothing wrong with a machine but the operator of such machine but it is blamed on the machine or company that produces it.

Just go online and check reviews of what you are looing into and make your judgment that way. Don't take someone's word about a product unless they themselves own it, had it, or used it.

It's easy for us to jump the bandwagon and say things like "they don't make there products like they use to" and never even owned one.

Check reviews from folks that actually own any machine.

I totally agree, I wouldn't buy a new Singer at any cost, Janome, Bernina etc; yes but Singer really lost it when they modernised their machines, should have kept them as they were they would still sell today. I mean who wouldn't invest in a brand new Featherweight :thumbup:

New Singers are terrible. Brand new one sent out for repair about than 3 months after purchase (hardly used it as it was a back-up). (Has to pay shipping - and had to fight to get them to honor the warranty). Parts are still falling off - screws, stitch guide, whatever. Sounds (clunks, rumbles, squeals, etc. serenade me as I stitch :)

All my older machines (Kenmore, Singer, etc. are still running strong - no problems.

I just purchased the Singer Quantum 9960 in June. And I love it. I do everything and I think it's wonderful and a super price. I use it every single day for hours. Not a problem. I has just enough gagets to make it nice, but not so many to cause it to have a lot of problems. I recommend it, recommended it to my sister because she wants a new one.

Ordered it from HSN because it has ALL the features I wanted (combined Janome and Pfaff features) at a decent price. Turned out to be a rattletrap with poor quality so I sent her back. I am a Baby Lock convert.

I recently bought the new Singer Featherweight, and I really like it. It sews smoothly, has some great features of some of the larger machines as well as a removable larger table/platform. Did a class on the coiled bowls and this machine had a wider zig-zag than the new Brothers that the school had just purchased so my piece was nicer looking and easier to do than the other pieces. I don't have a designated sewing space to have to move my machine each time I want to quilt.
