I have ceramic tile and love it! As the carpet in my house needs to be changed, it will be hardwood or tile. I am finished with carpeting!!!!

I have VCT (vinyl composition tile) which is like industrial tile you would find in a hospital.

It's dirt cheap, comes in a zillion colors and is indestructible and easier on your feet and back than ceramic. We designed our kitchen floor to look like inlaid linoleum that was there when the house was built in 56. It's easy to put a shiny finish on it. Mops up easily.

had wood loved it. bu found it hard to maintain and was always worried it would get ruined. We did our old basement with ceramic tiled. Loved it loved it!. No worry spilling water....just mop it up. So we moved and have All wood. Now that I am retired I do not worry as much.

I have hard wood floors everywhere except the bathrooms and entries.

Stained concret is beautiful but then so is wooden or ceramic tile. I have both wooden through out my house and ceramic tile in bathrooms and washroom and I love them both. My niece had her new home concret floors painted and wow are they beautiful, too. Good luck

I personally would just get laminate for a kitchen. I have the dropsies and know I would have lost a fair amount of glasses, plates and bowls if there were ceramic on the floor.

My entire home (including bathrooms) is Pergo laminate. My hubby is an Endorsed Master Installer for Pergo. I've had wood, carpet and tile. This is the easiest when it comes to care and looking great. DON'T buy a bargain brand laminate. Brad refuses to install or repair them but has replaced many. You get what you pay for, especially in this economy.

I've had wood, ceramic tile, and linoleum on my kitchen floors in the past BUT when hubby and I built the dream home about five years ago, I chose Cork in a natural cork--and yes, it looks like the cork straight off a wine bottle.
It is soft and cushy underfoot, and is environmentally friendly.
After eight hours of prepping for a party, I can stilol enjoy the party because my feet don't hurt after standing in there for hours!
Oh yes, and it is easy-peasy to care for--it has a poly treatment to the top of it and it was super easy--click together for the install. Love it, love it, love it.

I just went through that same thing for months, waffling back and forth between wood (including bamboo) and ceramic. I finally went with something entirely different and here's why: 1)Since I cook so much, the tile would be hard on my legs. Did that when I taught school standing on a cement floor all day long. Also, I know of two people who are tearing theirs out and one of their reasons is that it shatters everything. 2) I thought the wood finish would wear out because you'll be standing in front of the sink and stove the most, and I don't care to put rugs down. So that said, I went with a stone tile looking sort of like a vinyl, but not shiny, floor. It clicks together and went in pretty quickly (for hubby), so it floats and if you want to rip it out, for a new remodel (hee,hee) it isn't glued down except around the edges. We got it at Home Depot.
