Did you buy another machine yet? I replaced my Singer 9900 in 1986 when the board went out in the middle of a quilt. I was heart-broken when I found out it would be $200 for a new board if it could be found, and then more $ for labor. I found an Elna 7000 and just love it - - it has more decorative stitches than the Singer had, and it is so quiet! It's like a Cadillac compared to an inexpensive Ford or whatever...the Singer beeped every time I pressed a button, and the Elna is a dream to sew on. Hope you found something wonderful!

I love the old Singers and have used them for years, like the 201 and 301s. But recently I upgraded to a Husqvarna Viking Lily. Love it! Does everything I need and the price was right. This was a big step for me as I only knew the old vintage Singers. Check around Ebay. You'll find something reasonable. But to drive all that way would not be an option for me.
