Ive had this machine about 6 years, and have done about 6 quilts and numerous sewing jobs ..... I have a singer treadle, Kenmore .... and singer touch n sew that I can do the adjustments and cleaning on .. but this is the new plastic machine with the AWESOME push down needle threader ( just misses the needle eye ? ) !!! years ago I inquired , and it was $75...

I usually do the routine stuff on all my machines myself...but, in the rare instance when I need to take it out, I have a repairman who I've been dealing with for about 16-17 years. He has a gruff personality, but boy, does he know his stuff!
The only problem I have with him is that he is so busy sometimes I have to wait a day or two more...but that too, is okay! He only charges $75 for a thorough going-over.

My Janome serviveman is the gentleman who sold me the machine. I was having a bit of trouble with the automatic threader. There was just a tiny screw that needed tightening. He has a bench fee of $25 but did not charge me because I bought the machine from him. Look at that threader, can you tighten the screw? ....but, agree with everyone else, call first, describe what needs to be done and maybe they can give you a better price....but $100, gosh, NO!

Wow some of your techs are charging quite a big. I have a Brother 6 needle embroidery only machine---I had a circuit board replaced. While he had it there, he did a tune-up/oil/clean up. That cost me 150.00 and was finished in 3 days. I thought that was pretty reasonable considering he had to replace the circuit board.

I just paid $180.00 for my Innovis to be serviced. The labor charge alone was $100.00. The rest was a new bobbin case and tention spring.

I have a machine that has the same problem. Haven't taken it to be repaired as yet, but I was told they would give me an estimate prior to repairing it. My calculation is, "If the cost of repair is over priced, don't have it repaired but replace."
My reasoning is this, if the machine is out of warranty, which mine is, don't have it repaired. Your repair is warranted for 30 days only. My idea first is to see by reading your manual if you can correct the problem, save yourself some money. If you can't fix it yourself, then take the other solution.

I had my Viking Scandinavia 400 sewing/embroidery machine serviced last Dec. One shop (large, national chain) wanted $145.00 for cleaning/tune up. I took it to my LQS, whose DH does Viking repairs and he charged me $69.00 for clean/repair. He also replaced the motherboard, which went "belly up" NINE days before it was out of warranty! Didn't even charge for labor on that, so no charge there. It sews like a dream now!
