    Default King size help advice

I'm making a quilt for my dd king sized bed. I want to do a traditional Ohio star, with every other block plain, or close to that. I think this could be too busy on such a large bed. What do you think of a whole cloth with an Ohio star border? Smaller one to be folded up at bottom? Any suggestions appreciated.

What about a carpentar star as the body of the quilt? I made one and the center was the carpentar star was 70" square. Then do a border or some other blocks around it. Mine finished at 100" square.

How can something that big be too busy?

Thanks for the advice - I'll draw it up.

scale up the block... find an ohio star quilt that you like and then count blocks.... 5 x 6... or 6 x 7? borders added? then measure how much the 'queen size' sample covers from first to last block on the top row.... 72? and you need how much? 90? they have 6 blocks in 72".... so you need to divide 90 by 6...your blocks need to be 15"... weird size? 16 isn't.... and on a bed that big... it will be fine... it will look proportional to still have 6 blocks wide and 7 blocks long at 16" for a king size.... even a crib quilt would look good at 6 x 7.... they would just be 9" sq.... so 54 x 63.... proportion is everything and while they will look kind of big while working on them... it will look right on the bed..

I think an Ohio Star with some alternating block would look great. If I can get this to work, I'm posting a photo of a quilt I just finished for my son that is similar to what you were originally thinking. I alternated an Ohio Star with a Building Block - both 9" blocks, set on point. This part of the quilt covers the entire top of the bed. Then did a relatively simple border for the part of the quilt that hangs over the sides and bottom. It's a queen-sized quilt, although the photo is taken on a king sized bed, so don't be mislead by the size. But if you enlarge to a 12" block, you would probably have a similar number of blocks, so hopefully this would give you some idea of what it might look like.
