I use a lot of quilt-as-you-go methods, and I personally recommend doing the applique first and then sandwich and quilt section by section. When you get the sections done, attach them. Then add the borders and quilt them separately. I have this pattern although I haven't started it yet. It is darling. I like her choice of background.

I just love your owl quilt - the eyes really make them so much more adorable - great color selection
