I do the same as cutebuns, take a picture, move the blocks and take another picture. Then you can see which patterns appeal to you the most or if anything stands out needing to be moved. Sometimes I think I liked something the first way and can't remember the exact placement of the blocks without the photo for reference.

They're both beautiful.
I can't help on the placement as I have never done a OBW.
For me, it's nice to play with placement especially if a friend helps and gives a different perspective but I'd set a limit to how many ways I'd twist and turn it.I think it would drive me crazy if I had to decide how they should go. I'm kinda like omak... I'd just do it----I could change my mind hundreds of times and many of the layouts would appeal to me but gosh, I can only make one design in one quilt.
But hey, that's just my opinion.

Thank you all for your comments, compliments and suggestions. I have not taken out my quilt since I rolled it up the other night. It's certainly a challenge for me. The layout process is always the worst part of the quilt for me. So I will forge on and keep you all up to date.
