Yes, they were to be examples of controlled scrappy. I do not make scrappies where you just pull some fabric out of a bag and sew it on.

I would like to try though and have a pineapple pattern and technique I would like to ty that with.

Don't forget the tool you will need it.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but Quiltville with Bonnie Hunter has all kinds of scrap designs, including a free pineapple pattern.

I am with anna controlled scrappy all the way. I made my blocks for the mystery train scrappy and did the just go forit thing and well I look at those blocks and think... well barf. I hope whatever we are doing improves it cause right now I am so not feeling it. I will make controlled scrappy from here on. mixed gotcha but not pastels with rusts etc.. what the he.. here aremy six blocks. I made 8 two I had to pull as no way bright green bright red with the rest of my scrap blocks didnt work. should I just forget it or do you think there is hope? we need two other colors not much pattern to go with them one lighter than the other. suggestions? its a mystery so who knows.. we cut a bunch of rectangles 2.5 x 4.5 to sew somehow next week.. Yes, goldendog55. Thanks for reminding us about this wonderful free website. I am a sucker for some books. That one is as much of a book just to look at as it is for technique.

Oh what fun conversations! I love both controlled scrappy and true scrappy! I keep my scrap fabrics in that doesn't happen a lot cause it's boring to just cut squares and bricks...(in my opinion)so usually I cut to order?
Elisabrat, I have found that just squares don't excite me in blocks unless they are controlled scrappy...I made a quilt for my DD with just 6" squares and she loves it and it's so soft and pretty...pastels...so it was scrappy, but all blended...if you really dislike your blocks, perhaps consider turning them into D9P's maybe? The true scrappy's look prettier as we use more designs and smaller blocks...as you can see by Rhonda's examples...really pretty...somehow using smaller pieces together that don't match look better when they're not in your face? LOL! You might find with the next step that you start to love it though...

Annaquilts, paper piecing for scrappy pineapple blocks are perfect! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE doing them in all sizes and are perfect for using scraps! I haven't used a tool...hope you share how you are enjoying using it?

I ran across this Disappearing 16 patch which would be a cute scrap idea.

Thanks for sharing this--I hadn't seen it before. Lots of variety to the settings.

Very cute tutorial. like the controlled lol fabrics she chose like they came from a charm pack. of course they match. not so much from my scrap bag. I am going to finish my scrappy happy quilt and make controlled the name of the game.At least to a certain extent. I am finding its easier on my worn out eyes. now to figure out what two fabrics would best accent those blocks I made. easier said than done. like tossing up in the air um that one. how to match unmatched! RHONDA HELP!
