Default It's Virtual Quilt Day!! Today - Sunday, April 21, 2013

Hi everyone!!

Today is the day!! Today I am hosting a Virtual Quilt Day. There are no rules. Basically I started this because I was too lazy to lug my sewing machine to the local quilt store for an all day sew-in. So I decided to have a home sew in with all my friends through the internet!! Join in anytime you can today. All you have to do is come here when you start and tell us your goals, then through out the day check in and let us know how you are doing and leave encouragement for others! That's it!! If you can only join us for half a day, that's fine. If you are in a different time zone, that's fine. This is just a loose and fun thing!! I find it helps me to sew more if I am joined by so many other sewers as well!!

My goal for today: Draw a new pattern!!

I haven't been quilting much, but I want to keep up with drawing new things so that's my goal for today. Can't wait to see what everyone else is up to!!

Cheers!
Rachel

As soon as I post this, I am out the door for early church. When I return, I will start cutting out the 57 pieces for an appliqué block. My goal is to finish this before going to the wellness center for exercise. This afternoon, my goal is to get the starch on the pieces, glue the pieces to the fabric, and hopefully, get a few pieces hand stitched down. When the notice of VQD was posted, I had planned to work on my Mystery Quilt assignment; but I was able to finish that yesterday. VQD is a wonderful incentive to get things completed in quilting. Thanks so much, Rachel.

I'm in for the next hour or so then off for 3-4 hours. Then back to make string blocks. Using left over strips from variety of projects. Getting off of here & will check in later. Thanks for getting us started, Rachel! Hope your pattern drawing goes well.

My husband has to work today so after church and a stop at Sonic for a diet vanilla coke I will be working on finishing the pinning of a throw then off to quilt. I have the one on the table, one throw to quilt and a baby one to quilt. These are in addition to the three baby quilts waiting for the binding to be sewn down. I make myself a "busy bag" to take when we go see my father-in-law so I can have something to occupy my mind and hands (it is an 8 hour drive each way) so I need a LOT to occupy myself.

When I return from church, I'll be FMQing and binding a throw quilt to send to the victims of the explosion in West, TX. It's a top that I finished ages ago but just got around to sandwiching Friday when I heard about the explosion. Actually I have two more ready to be quilted and they all take the same colour thread so I might at least get them FMQ today also. I'll check back in with pics later.

Yesterday I started clearing 1/2 of my sewing room in anticipation of puppy birthing. Mom and her puppies get the left hand side of the room where you see the black rubber matting. I still need to scrub the whelping box and put it together. I will share photos once the puppies arrive.
So as I cleared I found all those UFOs that are stacked on my ironing board...lots and lots. So today I want to try to get them under control (or as many as I can.)

Yay! I get to quilt today too.

My first task is to straighten up my studio, then start looking through my stash for some backing for a small art quilt/wall hanging.

I will be starting around noon, and my goal is to finish the blocks for a "spinning cross" quilt I started Thursday. I'd like to completely finish the top, but I don't think I like the original pattern with the blocks all merged together without sashing and can't get out to shop for sashing, so unless I change my mind and just go with the original I will likely start a new quilt when that is done. I'll post some pics later this afternoon!
