G Street Fabrics outside of Washington DC.
Great huge shop - sells all kinds of fabric, incl. quilting.

I just checked their site for the web name and they have a coupon click if you're interested

San Francisco Area: There are no quilt shops in SF proper anymore that I know about, but there are several within 25-50 miles driving distance: New Pieces in Berkeley (across the bay from SF) and down the SF peninsula: Always Quilting in San Mateo, Eddie's and also The Granary in Sunnyvale (near San Jose), Prairie Queen in San Jose. You can probably google for more. There is a fabric shop in SF called Britex (on Post St) that has all sorts of wonderful fabrics (mostly for clothing, but it's still fun to visit).

If you have a US compatible cell phone, there is a quilt shop app available.

In Las Vegas, there are several: Quiltique in Henderson (just south of Las Vegas), Christmas Goose, and Fabric Boutique. There is a quilt tour company, where she'll come and take you on a tour. Here's the website: http://www.quilttoursoflasvegas.com/. I was going to try it once, but I moved to LV a little over a year ago, so I have gone to all of them by myself.

And 2 hours north of Las Vegas is St. George, Utah. They have about 8 quilt shops, one of which is in a hardware store (carries all the name brands). My favorite is called Scrap Apple Quilts. They carry a lot of batiks.

If you're going to Seattle, there is one in Pike Place Market. I forget the name, but it's very nice.

I see someone already recommended "The City Quilter" in New York City. I was just there in November and it was an awesome shop! They had a quilt gallery in one room with quilts on display (I think most were for sale). Plan on stopping if at all possible. They are very friendly and helpful.

My first thought was also M&L fabrics, on the corner of Knott & Ball as mentioned in reply above me. I also agree with Rosie's iCalico Cupboard and Ginger's in Claremont, which I prefer over Fabric Patch ... but you will enjoy the adventure with ALL of them.

Be sure to report back and let us know which you really enjoyed. My all-time fave is M&L fabrics, and have to keep myself away so that I am not tempted to buy too much ... their prices are great!

    Welcome!
Check fabric outlet 2109 mission, near Bart station, discount fabrics 525 4th street, near sf Caltrain station. Across bay bridge see new pieces, Berkeley, cotton patch, Lafayette, and stone mountain and daughter, Berkeley. If you do go to Berkeley also check out the many sari shops on university ave - not much quilting fabric but stunning silks and slinkies.
We have many great quilt guilds here and top instructors, so I hope you can spend at least a week.
I loved my trips to Australia, and you have superb quilters there. The launceston quilt show got me interested in this addictive hobby!
    Have a great trip,
    Fran

Britex too!!! I had to swear off it when I worked in the city - I filled my closet with their fabric and didn't have time to sew with my long commute.
    Fran again

And I could kick myself for missing Big City Quilts when I was in New York a couple of years ago. Don't you miss it.

Will you be bringing extra luggage or shipping a big box home?
I second this one. They have a hugh selection of fabric and amazingly low prices.
