I looked at the needle and the tip was broken off.

Is there a way to unscrew the feed dogs, turn them around and screw them back on?

I had this problem with both a janome and brother. You press a button in to reverse. I am very heavy handed as I suspect your listening daughter is. The button was stuck in the down position causing it to always go backwards. It took ages to release switched on off. I think I got a pin and pulled top up. Please look and see if it is just stuck.

Take a picture of your daughter with the clothes on and submit them to McCall and Simplicity patterns - if they purchase the pattern they will create the pattern pieces for you and help write instructions - my mother did this years ago with beanie baby patterns and other soft toys for babies and kids. I am currently working on a new seam ripper
