    Default Finding the Age of a Singer Motor...

    Is there a reference guide, or site that will tell you the year that a Singer MOTOR was made by its serial number?
    Thanks.

    I suppose that you could go by searching the service manuals, or amps, lettering on Motor, etc. Anyone else have any ideas on how to date a Singer motor? Thanks, Cindy

    Find a similar motor mounted on a machine and date the serial number off the machine. Lots of good examples on ebay.

    I think the quick answer is no, nothing like that exists.

    Want to start a database? Like carfax but SMfax?

    Yes...I actually have been looking at some Ebay auctions, trying to find the right motor for my 1949 Singer 128. I've also been searching the service manuals. It would be nice to have a good reference though. Do I want to start a database...I dunno. I'm a tad lazy in that regard.

    I just checked my log and my 128 is a 1941 model so I can't help. Sorry.

    In the ISMACS Comprehensive Singer Model List: { http://www.ismacs.net/singer_sewing_...ist/index.html }
    It lists the motor family for many of the electric machines. Such as for the 15-97 it uses the "B.R." motor. If ISMACS has this info listed for your machine you can at least tell if the motor is of the correct motor family. I have several Singers that came to me with motors other than what ISMACS says should be there, so some may have been switched out or replaced.

    Thanks everyone. So much research, so little time.
