    Default Long Arm Skill Building

Hello I belong to a long arm club, mostly HQ owners, but a sprinkling of us non-HQ people as well. Last january I challenged myself to host skill building challenges for the ladies in the club. I have spent a bit of time hunting up resources in order to work together with the other ladies and the few gents that show up too. While hunting, I came across Angela Walter's Book "Free Motion Quilting", It was exactly what I wanted her new book "Shape by Shape" is absolutely perfect too. So the club members all bought the book and we are working through the skills taught in the book. Each month we meet, we discuss what issues we ran across, what things we did to challenge ourselves, and then self assign for the next week. I am so happy with the "skill building challenges," truly is wonderful to get a group of us long armers together and help each other grow our skills! It is so very rewarding.

So far we have done the first 5 designs in the book. Another member recommends that before we finish the book we should challenge ourselves to make one of the quilts in the book. I am all for that, and it didnt dawn on me till after I left, that perhaps we should donate these samples as well. Will have to see. Anyhow, for my practice pieces, I just use a fat quarter, quilt it up, and for the moment just put it aside, I will use them for totes or fabric boxes or something....So here are my first 5.

    1. Swirls

    2. Swirls with Hooks (sorry for the bad shot, stupid phone)

    3. Double and Single Loop Meander

    4. Paisley

    5. Pebbling

What a great way to learn! Thanks for the inspiration. It looks like you don't need any practice. Nice work!
