I think it looks very traditional Amish. The black squares formed on point leave an inviting canvas for beautiful hand quilted feather wreaths. Traditional Amish quilts were made of solids, usually wool, left over from clothing. They were meant to be plain as that is one of their tenants. The quilting would be done in a thread that matched the fabric so as not to stand out but still be beautiful in its execution but subtle in appearance.

I do quite a few amish'ish throws. I like to add one other bright color. With this one I might add a bright green or maybe a yellow. Perhaps a small square placed in the center of the large black square or a small stripe across the black strip connecting the two points. That small piece of brightness can really change the whole look. This is a great pattern for a group and if several are being made, perhaps each group could use a different splash color.

I agree with what others have said about switching the black in the sashing so that the block black does not touch. To me, there is no place in this quilt for your eyes to rest and so it seems busier than it actually is. Could this be what seems off about it?

It looks Amish to me. They seem to use a lot of solids.

Ha! me too. didn't notice the block first. looks good. I like a bit of green or purple in them though but this should be fine.

The quilt is solid colors, heavy on the black. Typical Amish quilt.

This quilt looks a little monotone. It looks like two mediums and a dark? Usually quilts have at least three tones? Just my thought...

I think the black sashing next to black HSTs makes them look odd. I know its kind of an optical illusion but it looks like it is breaking up squares with a strip of the same color.

That is a typical Amish quilt, Amish quilts are usually made in dark, solid colors, using fairly simple blocks. To me this is a very traditional Amish quilt.
