Either one will be beautiful. I really like the way you did it - this gives a choice of which way to go. Go with whichever one makes you happiest then make another and finish it the opposite way. I am 50/50 on choice also. Great job.

I went with the first one (the open one!)

So yesterday, one of the women I work with (had voted for the first one) had to help her 6 year old cat cross the rainbow bridge. She was devastated ... as would I be. She LOVED this quilt.

So this weekend, I'm going to put it all together and quilt it up and bring to work for her on Monday morning ... maybe, just maybe, something bright in her day ...

So very nice of you to finish it for your co-worker.
If you decide to make another one for you, make two, one of each design. You could make a reversible wallhanging and get to enjoy both designs.
